Ancient Rome was a civilization that grew out of a small agricultural community founded on the Italian Peninsula as early as the 10th century BC. Located along the Mediterranean Sea, it became one of the largest empires in the ancient world.

In its centuries of existence, Roman civilization shifted from a monarchy to an oligarchic republic to an increasingly autocratic empire. It came to dominate South-Western Europe, South-Eastern Europe/Balkans and the Mediterranean region through conquest and assimilation.

Plagued by internal instability and attacked by various migrating peoples, the western part of the empire, including Italy, Hispania, Gaul, Britannia and Africa broke up into independent kingdoms in the 5th century AD.

The Eastern Roman Empire was governed from Constantinople and comprised of Greece, the Balkans, Asia Minor, Syria and Egypt, survived this crisis. Despite the later loss of Syria and Egypt to the Arab-Islamic Empire, the Eastern Roman Empire continued for another millennium, until its remains were finally annexed by the emerging Turkish Ottoman Empire. This eastern, Christian, medieval stage of the Empire is usually called the Byzantine Empire by historians.

Roman civilization is often grouped into "classical antiquity" with ancient Greece, a civilization that inspired much of the culture of ancient Rome. Ancient Rome contributed greatly to the development of government, law, war, art, literature, architecture, technology, religion, and language in the Western world, and its history continues to have a major influence on the world today.

Why did a influential person lose the incentive to cast private assets for society in the ancient Rome?
Q. In ancient Rome an influential person like Caesar had the incentive to cast private assets and restore a public facility like bridges, but such a kind of incentive was getting disappeared as the history of the empire advanced. Why was it like that ?

A. Simple answer -- private citizens spent money for public works in the late republic because these works were expected, and were widely seen as a means of advancing in power. By the time of the later empire, public works were largely paid by the state and the emperors controlled patronage for public positions. It was about pleasing the mobs in the late republic; but by the late empire, there was nothing to be gained by pleasing the mobs, so the practice declined.

A. TOGA! TOGA!TOGA! Just playin. Roman men and women, like other Indo-Europeans, originally seem to have worn a large piece of wool, wrapped around themselves. After they met people from Greece and Egypt, around 200 BC, they began to wear linen tunics (like T-shirts) under their wool robes, which was more comfortable. On their feet, both men and women wore leather sandals, or leather boots in cold weather. In their hair, women wore wooden hairsticks or wooden combs, which they could also use to comb their hair. For fancy occasions Roman men always continued to wear their wool robes over their tunics. They called these wool robes togas, and there were a lot of rules about how exactly a man should wear his toga, and who could have a stripe… [cont.]

A. Women of the upper classes mixed freely in society, and would go out to parties, banquets, visiting friends etc. Women of all classes might go to the theatre or to the chariot races and gladiatorial contests. Upper class Roman women were generally well educated, and might take pleasure in reading books, in writing, and in making music. Women would also enjoy going to the public baths. Some of the larger baths had seperate sections for men and women, otherwise women would normally go in the mornings, and men in the afternoons. Roman women participated in private religious cults, which might have been pleasurable. There were festivals and holidays when everyone would have a good time. Saturnalia, at midwinter, was a festival when… [cont.]
