From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A fish is any aquatic vertebrate animal that is covered with scales, and equipped with two sets of paired fins and several unpaired fins. Most fish are ectothermic (or cold-blooded). Fish are abundant in most bodies of water. Fish can be found in high mountain streams (e.g., char and gudgeon) and in the deepest ocean depths (e.g., gulpers and anglerfish). Food prepared from fish is also called fish, and is an important human food source. Commercial and subsistence fishers "hunt" them in wild fisheries (see fishing) or "farm" them in ponds or in cages in the ocean (see aquaculture). They are also caught by recreational fishers and raised by fishkeepers, and are exhibited in public aquaria. Fish have had a role in culture through the ages, serving as deities, religious symbols, and as the subjects of art, books and movies. From Wikipedia under the

Q. I'm seriously going to try and have a pet fish. It seems like a step down since I've owned a guinea pig for five years but I have been interested in fish. I'm leaning towards a regular gold fish but I don't know. I'm not that experienced so I don't want a really difficult fish to take care of. What's the best type of fish to get for beginners? Asked by Ambrosia - Sun Apr 20 21:34:19 2008 - - 19 Answers - 0 Comments A. I started wanting fish back in November and did a lot of reading on the internet. Now I have a 10 gallon, and soon a 20. I'd say start with a 10+ gallon tank because it's easier to keep stable and you don't have to do as many water changes. I think a 10 gallon is really the perfect starter size - not too big not too small. You'll need to get everything first, set up the tank, and let it cycle (google it). Pick some small freshwater fish like tetras, corydoras catfish, rasboras, barbs, otocinclus, bettas..etc. After your tank is cycled you can add about two fish a week, don't add all of them at once. Once you get everything going and setup it's very easy to take care of. Just feed them once or twice a day, and gravel siphon the… [cont.] Answered by Stacy - Sun Apr 20 21:43:17 2008 How much fish food should i feed my tropical fish? Q. Q. My little brother has five fish and a huge tank. We are looking for more fish to go along with them. What sorts of fish could we safely stick in the tank with them? Asked by robertbobears - Thu Sep 6 22:30:31 2007 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments A. Goldfish are coldwater, so not many fish are suitable to go with them but other goldfish. Depending on the variety of goldfish, they may get to be 4-18 inches (each) as adults, and because of the amount of wastes they produce, each fish should have at least 10 gallons of tank volume, so at the least, they'll need to have a 50-55 gallon tank by the time they're fully grown. You may want to consider this before adding more fish, then needing an even larger tank. Answered by copperhead - Thu Sep 6 22:39:02 2007 From Yahoo Answer Search: "fish" |
