How long should my saltwater tank cycle before putting in a blue spotted puffer ?
Q. My saltwater is still cycleing after 2 weeks and has live rock and live sand. I did not put any corals since the puffer likes to nibble on it and right now has 6green chromises in it.

A. You need to research some more. You should not really put the dollar fish in the tank for at 4 to 6 weeks. Your bi. filter has not had enough time to establish. Did you check your ph, kh, gh, NO 2 and your NH3/NH4 levels ? Putting to many fish in such a short time could shock your tank . Patience is the key word here. Don't rush it. What can you tell me about setting up a saltwater aquarium?
Q. My mom and I are planning on setting up our own saltwater aquarium once we get my aunt's 30 gallon aquarium. How do you suggest we go about this? (we're fish people but we know nothing about saltwater fish or aquariums)

A. I suggest you go to amazon or your local bookstore and loom for beginner books about saltwater aquariums...you will news to do alot of research before beginning your setup. Saltwater tanks are much more expensive then freshwater and the creatures which inhabit them are much more fragile. It's key to understand everything going on because in something as small as a 30 gallon tank, any issue can quickly get out of hand. You have no room for error in a tank this small and if everything isn't done properly and given the proper amount of time to adjust, then you will be out of pocket alot of money. What do i need to start a saltwater tank just for a horseshoe crab?
Q. what kind of plants do they need if they need any at all...im assuming most of the tank would have to be set up as a normal saltwater tank, but about how big a tank should i get for a little one.

A. A horseshoe crab will grow about 25% larger with each molt. Having said that. My own horseshoe crab was about the size of a quarter when I got him, and now (year and a half later) fits into the palm of my hand. I would suggest a tank at least the size of a thirty gallon breeder, but to maintain the saltwater tank it would require florescent lights, a filter with a bio-wheel that moves 350 gallons per hour, and a live-sand bed that is at least three inches deep. As I have mostly invertebrates in my tank, I turn my filter off for twenty minutes every other day to let the food settle for them. Most horseshoe crabs starve to death in tanks.
